SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
The School of Science and Technology Education was carved out from School of Natural and Applied Sciences on the 6th of November, 2014. The School houses six Departments namely; Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. The Departments except Statistics offer BTech, Mtech and PhD degrees in various disciplines.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE SCHOOL
The Philosophy of the School of Science and Technology Education is based on the general philosophy of the University as contained in the University’s Academic brief and the Philosophy of Education embedded in the National Policy on Education (4th Edition). The School of Science and Technology Education focuses on the education of teachers and is committed to producing high quality and professionally competent graduate teachers trained with adequate skills, new orientation, technology and knowledge to meet global best practices in education.
The School of Science and Technology Education shall strive to be known (recognized) for excellence in teacher education that harnesses the capabilities and capacities of student teachers through new orientation on pedagogy, service, productivity and self-reliance (entrepreneurship) for effective utilization in School setting and the larger society.
The School of Science and Technology Education as a specialized School shall provide an enabling environment for quality training, skills and innovative information technology development in a variety of relevant education activities for self, state and national development.
Both academic and administrative activities of the Departments in the school are well coordinated. These includes student’s results, students’s cases, transfer, staff promotion, seminar /conferences and discipline of both student and staff institutional board meeting.
The school has a staff strength of 163 on permanent and pensionable appointment, some are on sabbatical and some on visiting appointment. Currently, some staff are on study fellowship for various higher degree programmes within and outside the country.
A good number of academic staff has delivered public lecturers to the community on various areas of interest. Read More
